The next step is to confirm your pregnancy. This can be done through a Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound Exam, which is offered free of charge.
An ultrasound exam will determine:
- if there is a pregnancy in your uterus. Rarely a pregnancy can start outside of the uterus in the fallopian tubes or other areas (this is called an ectopic pregnancy), and this is a medical emergency, requiting immediate medical attention.
- if there is a heartbeat. One out of four pregnancies end in a miscarriage. If there is no heartbeat, and the pregnancy is at least 6 weeks along, then a miscarriage could be imminent, and medical care should be sought.
- how many weeks along the pregnancy is. This information is particularly helpful when the mom's menstrual cycles are irregular.
The purpose of the ultrasound exam is not for identifying the gender (sex) of the baby.
Our medical staff will determine if you are eligible for an ultrasound. Please call our office at (989) 835-1500 for more information or to make an appointment.
